The Doctrines Of Men Aren't Trustworthy
And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. John 20:30-31 (NKJV)
While listening to the local “Christian” radio station, I heard, “Jesus always tells the truth, because He is the God who cannot lie.” I agree that Jesus always tells the truth, but not with the speaker’s reason.
For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.” John 12:49-50 (NKJV) Jesus said, “Just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.” The Bible also tells us that God cannot lie. The issue with the speaker’s reasoning is that Jesus is the Son of God, not God.
Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’” John 20:17 (NKJV)
In John 20:17, Jesus ascending to His God and Father, and to Jesus’ brethren’s God and Father, is the point. If one believes “the Son is God” then this could not be true. Jesus could not be telling the truth. It would be the greatest deception of all time, if the Bible were to label Jesus a liar.
Unlike John’s account of who Jesus is in John 20:30-31, “the Christ, the Son of God,” and what “Jesus said” in John 20:17, the doctrines of men aren’t trustworthy. If not for the birth of the Anthanasian Creed in 325-AD, unless one believes “the Son is God” one “cannot be saved” wouldn’t be an issue at all.
God bless.
In His Care… Jim
