Jesus Told The Truth
For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses to His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” 2 Peter 1:16-17 (NKJV)
Can we really trust the eyewitness’s account as recorded in the Bible? I would say “yes,” because in the Bible there are plenty of dependable eyewitness accounts of things Jesus said, and did. It’s no secret that it is likely that the last entry of the New Testament occurred near the end of the first century. Today, however, “we were eyewitnesses” doesn’t guarantee an accurate report of events that have actually taken place. Some, looking to gain an advantage by spreading “cunningly devised fables,” will twist facts for some sort of gain.
When I read the Bible, it’s as if I am an eyewitness to the events that are documented in it. What you see is what you get so to speak. Not a word more, or a word less, especially when it concerns what one must believe in order to be saved according to the Scriptures. When it comes to Biblical truths, twisting them dramatically, or even twisting them ever so slightly, won’t go undetected.
As one who’s not ashamed to tell others about Jesus, as laid out for us in the Scriptures, what you see is what you get works just fine for me. It’s beyond absurd, how the Bible is treated these days. I’m not talking about by nonbelievers here, but rather by those believing Jesus told the truth.
God bless. In His Care… Jim
